Is Hand Engraving the Next Big Trend for Events?
If you’re on social media and search ‘Engraving’ you will see a great number of videos of engraved items. You might even see a few brand events or PR activations with calligraphers engraving right on the spot.
I’ve done events throughout the years for brands like MAC Cosmetics, Malin + Goetz, Balmain Paris, and although it’s becoming popular, you may still find yourself asking “What is engraving?”
Before we get into it, there are two different versions of engraving. There is hand engraving and machine engraving.
Hand engraving is the process of carving or etching a text, or design onto a surface using specialized tools called a drill. Hand engraving is done manually by a skilled artisan or calligrapher. This method allows for fine detail and precision, making each piece unique. On the other hand, machine engraving is uses automated tools, such as lasers to etch designs, text, or images onto various surfaces.

What Materials Can You Hand Engrave?
Hand engraving can be applied to a wide range of materials, making it incredibly versatile for various types of events. Some of the most popular materials for hand engraving include:
Metal: Gold, silver, platinum, and stainless steel are common metals used for engraving. They’re ideal for jewelry, cutlery, and tumblers.
Glass: Engraving glass creates elegant designs on drinkware, alcoholic beverages or even cologne/perfume bottles
Acrylic: Acrylic is a popular choice for creating customized event décor or signage.
Plastic: Compact Mirrors, lipsticks, and makeup brushes are good examples of plastics that can be engraved
Now that you know the bases of engraving, you may ask yourself, why you would want to add hand engraving to your next event? Here are just a few reasons why:
